Go Green, UT Health Science Center San Antonio

I pledge to take the following actions to make UT Health Science Center and San Antonio a healthier place to live and work, to help protect our environment, and to save money on utilities both at home and on campus:

Julien Matricon, PhD, School of Medicine

I pledge to:

  • Turn off the lights in my office whenever I leave.
  • Enable sleep mode on my home computer and/or consult Information Management and Services about enabling sleep mode on my office computer.
  • Take the stairs instead of the elevator.
  • Unplug chargers when not in use (cell phone, laptop, etc).
  • Wash full-loads of clothes in cold or warm water.
  • Adjust my thermostats at home to allow a wider range of temperatures.
  • Use compact fluorescent bulbs or LED-bulbs.
  • Walk, bike, carpool, or take the bus to work once each week.
  • If you usually drive to lunch, walk to lunch instead.
  • Close fume-hood sashes.
  • Whenever possible, turn off lab equipment that isn’t in use (check to make sure this will not interfere with calibration or other settings first).
  • Use a reusable mug for drinks.
  • Consider the environment before printing, and always print double-sided when possible.
  • Recycle all of my aluminum cans, plastic bottles, and paper on campus.
  • Recycle at home.
  • Choose locally-grown food whenever available.
  • Drink tap water, not bottled water.
  • Don’t let the sink run when not in use (when brushing teeth, or in the lab).
  • Take shorter showers.

Re-using paper sheets (overleaf for draft document). Two-side printing. Turning off all devices when leaving home for a vacation. Limiting the number of disposable plastic bags you use when doing shopping (especially grocery shopping). Air drying the laundry (especially here in Texas). Don't go to Starbucks! (make your own coffee). And so much more.
